These walks are far shorter than the Camino, which makes them a realistic first walking pilgrimage and a fair trial before committing to Spain. The Diocese of Wichita describes the Kansas walk as daily stages of roughly 8 to 22 miles, with Mass each day and time for Confession. The Walk to Mary, begun in 2013, lets people join at shorter points, including a walk of under two miles for families.
The National Eucharistic Pilgrimage is different in kind: the Perpetual Pilgrims are a small chosen team of young adults, and everyone else takes part in the processions and Masses at the stops.
Catholic press has reported other regional walks as well; smaller ones come and go, so confirm that a walk is still running before you plan around it. You can also walk to a shrine or cathedral near home: speak with your pastor, plan a safe route, and finish with Mass.
Fr. Kapaun was declared Venerable in 2025; he has not been beatified.
