Where do Catholic couples go on pilgrimage to pray for a child?

Couples hoping to conceive or to carry a child safely have long gone to pray at certain shrines. In the United States the best known are the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche in St. Augustine, Florida, the National Shrine of St. Gerard Majella in Newark, New Jersey, and shrines of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Many also ask the prayers of St. Anne, by tradition the mother of Mary. No shrine or saint guarantees a pregnancy; these are places to pray, to be prayed for, and to find other couples who understand.

The Church speaks about infertility with tenderness. The Catechism says that couples who discover they are sterile suffer greatly, encourages research that serves the human person, and teaches that a child is a gift, not something owed. It also says such couples can unite their suffering to the Lord's Cross and be generous through adoption or service.
