The Franciscans acquired the site in 1879 and the present church was blessed in 1881; the friars also serve the local Latin parish. In January the parish keeps the feast of the wedding at Cana, at which local couples by tradition renew their promises together.

For a group, the priest or organizer reserves the church through the Franciscan Pilgrims' Office in Jerusalem, which books Cana for priests and for groups traveling with their own priest; groups using an agency book through the agency. A couple traveling without a priest should write to the office (fpo@cicts.org) well before the trip, since it asks individuals to contact it by email. The office publishes a detailed procedure for a sacramental wedding at Cana, with documents due months ahead, but nothing comparable for a renewal of promises, and neither it nor the Custody mentions a certificate for renewals, so do not count on one.

Good to know before you go: the Christian Information Centre's list of opening hours showed the Wedding Church closed on Sundays through September 2026, so check the current list for your day. A pilgrim traveling without a husband or wife, or a widowed pilgrim, can use the visit to pray for the marriage. Galilee itineraries depend on conditions in the Holy Land at the time.
