The sanctuary lists its visiting hours as early morning until late evening from May to September and early morning until evening from October to April. The Chapel of the Stigmata is open from morning until evening in the warmer months and until early evening in the colder ones. Weekday Mass is celebrated in the morning, around midday, and again in the afternoon; on Sundays and holy days there are several Masses through the morning and early afternoon, with an extra late-morning Mass added from June to September and an evening Mass from May to September. The friars pray Lauds early in the morning and Vespers in the evening. Besides the chapel, look for the Sasso Spicco, the rock overhang where Francis prayed, and the glazed terracotta altarpieces by Andrea della Robbia and his workshop.
Groups of about 15 to 20 or more can book a guided visit of 45 to 60 minutes through the form on the sanctuary's website, and can ask to meet a friar or sister. The feast of the Stigmata is kept on September 17.
Good to know before you go: La Verna is remote, reached on winding mountain roads, and most pilgrims come by car or coach; from Assisi it is a full day. The site involves steps, uneven stone and mountain weather, so bring a layer even in summer. The sanctuary's pages read on October 10, 2026 do not describe parking or the walk from the coach area, so ask when you book.
